FREE SONG OF THE MONTH
April 2026
deep water
A classic Western Swing tune written by Fred Rose and made famous by Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys, one of the defining bands of the genre. Musically, it’s a quintessential Western Swing song - easygoing swing feel, poetic lyrics, friendly harmonies, and a catchy melody without being overly complicated. Artists who have recorded “Deep Water” include George Strait, Billy Mata, Tommy Hooker, and Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys, with Tommy Duncan featured on the classic version.

The above video starts with a two step, then transitions into connected jazz steps, followed by eight count swing. It features a lift or "air step", and also shows a short measure of a "tic-toc" shag rhythm.
And as always, remember the Golden Rule of Western Swing, kids - HAVE FUN!
